AS THE perennial season of heavy rains approach, some residents in some parts of the Kumasi metropolis are said to be living in fear of losing their homes and property to the occasional flooding associated with such heavy downpours.
Residents of some flood prone areas in Kumasi, such as Moshie Zongo and Asuoyeboah fear they would be rendered homeless if authorities do not do something about their flood prone areas.
They have warned that any heavy downpour in the Metropolis is a threat to their lives and property and would therefore require urgent attention from city authorities to salvage the situation.
Some parts of Moshie Zongo and Asuoyeboah, both in Kumasi are noted for persistent floods after every heavy downpour which often results in loss of lives and property running into several thousands of cedis.
Reports available to The Chronicle indicate that some residents have already started evacuating areas historically known to be flood-prone as preventive means of falling victims to the aftermath of torrential rains.

According to them, just as the rains have set in, there is a continuous anxiety about their lives and property and any cloudy weather signaling a possible rainfall gives them cause to worry over time.
According to some residents of Moshie Zongo, the poor construction of a storm drain has made matters worse since the narrow nature of the drain makes it difficult to contain the heavy running stream anytime there are heavy rains.

A Unit Committee Secretary, Mr. Mumuni Castro, lamented in an interaction with the paper that there is little the residents can do to address the situation without the support of city authorities.
He therefore called on city authorities to come to their aid before the worse happens to them.
