Ghanaians In UK Chase Out John Mahama
19.06.2013 LISTEN

Ghanaian President John Mahama had to cut short his visit to the UK as Ghanaian demonstrators made up of elements from COGEF (Coalition Against Electoral Fraud) and Concerned Ghanaians, hounded him everywhere he went. His visit which was at the instance of the Chatham House, gave him an opportunity to pay a courtesy call on UK Prime Minister and attend the trooping of colours to make the Queen birthday.

Touted loudly as attending the G8 summit, which was not the case, President John Mahama attended the overseas territories off shore banking meeting, which was aimed at seeking solutions to money laundering and tax evasion.

At the main function he came to UK to attend, which is the Chatham House on the 14th of June on Ghana's democratic gains, the President is said to have banned Ghanaians from coming to the event, because according to intelligence sources the people were coming there to protest against him and his government. According to a source at the Ghana High Commission in the UK, Mr Mahama was said to have been privately unhappy at the large number of Ghanaians that had registered to attend the event through the Chatham House website. The High Commissioner, Ambassador Kweku Danso Boafo together with other officials of the chancery at the commission were instructed to work closely with Mr Alex Vine, the lead person on International Affairs and Head of the Africa Desk at Chatham House to sift out any names that bore a Ghanaian surname.

As a result, a small pocket of demonstrators from COGEF picketed him at the entrance to Chatham House, much to the embarrassment of the President. To forestall against any future demonstrators, the President through the Ghana High Commissioner Prof Danso Boafo managed to secure the support and security to the London Metropolitan Police. At exactly 6pm on Saturday 15 June the Ghana High Commission premises on Highgate Hill seven police vans including two armoured and riot police vans were packed outside. The police in full riot gear however met with the all singing and all dancing protesters climbing up the hill with placards that read GO HOME ERROR PRESIDENT. GHANA IS AKONFEM REPUBLIC. STOP INTIMIDATING THE JUDGES. JOHN MAHAMA IS A THIEF. NO JUSTICE NO PEACE. WOYME ACCOMPLICE JOHN MAHAMA etc. The British police who had been brought there to prevent the demonstration, ended up protecting the demonstrators much to the embarrassment of the President. In a speech at the High Commission where he met some selected Ghanaians invited through political patronage, he lamented on the fact that Ghanaians were allowed to demonstrate in Britain.

According to our sources from GOGEF the President was served a notice that if he attempted to go to Enniskillen even as an observer to the G8 summit, protestors would follow and embarrass him in Northern Ireland. He decided, according to our source, to cut short his visit and return to Ghana on the Monday the G8 summit was scheduled to begin.

The President's trip has been quite eventful, but the Ghanaians living in UK led by the Coalition Against Electoral Fraud have made it even more eventful.
