The Embassy of the Republic of Ghana in Berne participated in the Africa Day 2026 commemoration held on Tuesday, 26 May 2026, at the Bellevue Palace Hotel in Berne, Switzerland. Organized under the auspices of the African Group of Ambassadors, the event brought together Heads of Mission, Swiss government representatives, members of the African diaspora, and the Swiss business community.
Deputy Ambassador Mr. Palmer Appiah‑Gyan led Ghana’s delegation on behalf of H.E. Prof. Mrs. Esi Awuah, Ghana’s Ambassador to Switzerland.
Africa Day, celebrated annually, honors the founding ideals of the African Union, promoting unity and progress across the continent. The 2026 edition in Berne provided a platform to deepen dialogue and cooperation between African nations and Switzerland.
In his keynote address, H.E. Léonard Henri Bindzi, Ambassador of Cameroon and Dean of the African Group, urged stronger partnerships beyond dialogue — particularly in vocational training, research, innovation, and higher education. He commended Switzerland’s 2025–2028 cooperation strategy and its enduring support for peacebuilding and humanitarian efforts in Africa, while highlighting the vital role of the African diaspora in advancing development.
Representing the Swiss Confederation, Ambassador Philipp Stadler, Head of the Sub‑Saharan Africa and Francophonie Division, reaffirmed Switzerland’s commitment to Africa as a strategic partner of global importance. He praised Africa’s youthful dynamism, entrepreneurial drive, and technological innovation, emphasizing collaboration in trade, investment, science, and culture.
The event featured vibrant cultural performances and exhibitions showcasing Africa’s diversity and economic potential, fostering connections between African missions and Swiss stakeholders.
Ghana’s participation underscored its dedication to strengthening bilateral relations with Switzerland and promoting opportunities in trade, investment, tourism, and cultural exchange. The Embassy expressed appreciation to the African Group of Ambassadors and all partners whose efforts ensured the success of the celebration.
