The chairman of the Lands Commission, Nana Adjei Ampofo, who stabbed NDC faithfuls in the back a couple of years ago when he went on air to defend why the NPP's Looting Brigade must keep Ga Lands they stole is in the news and again for the wrong reasons.
Information available to this paper indicates that Nana has in a brazen show of indiscipline refused to carry out the orders of the Minister for Lands and Forestry, Hon. Inusah Fuseini.
At the heart of show of arrogance is the Commission Chairman's decision to transfer the Regional Lands Officers from one region to the other. This did not sit well with the Minister for Lands who believes that the timing is wrong. In a letter sighted by this paper, dated 6thFebruary, 2013 and signed on his behalf by the Chief Director of the Lands Ministry, Prof. Bruce Bunoeng -Yakubo, the Minister held that 'through the proposed transfers are well intended, the timing and approach are raising some concerns which if not properly managed can be misconstrued and blur the environment for effective implementation of programmes within the Commission.'
The Minister then requested the Chairman of the Lands Commission to immediately suspend the transfer until further notice. However, in a brazen show of disrespect, Nana Adjei Ampofo snubbed the Minister and refused to comply with the directive. In a letter dated February 12, 2013, he virtually told the Minister that he (Nana Adjei Ampofo) does not work under him.
'The transfer are purely administrative in nature and no policy issues are involved,' he said, obviously hiding under article 265 of the 1992 Constitution which states that the Lands Commission is not subject to the direction and control of any person or authority. This is in spite of the fact that Article 258 (2) says the Minister for Lands may with the approval of the President give general directions on policy, in writing to the Commission regarding its function and the commission must comply.
Meanwhile, the 'Daily Post' has stumbled on information concerning why Nana Adjei Ampofo is bent on transferring the Regional Lands Officers. The reason is scandalous and will shock Ghanaians. If his wish is carried through, some persons who allegiances is to this government will be giving way to NPP apparatchiks, the very ones who sold Ga Lands at ridiculous prices to NPP members. Ghana may also end up paying compensations running into millions of cedis to undeserved persons.
Furthermore, this paper is also investigating allegations that the Lands Boss has snubbed the President as well.
