World Vision builds classroom block in Ayensuano District

Bepoase (E/R), May 1, GNA - The World Vision-Ghana, an international non-governmental organisation (NGO), has constructed a six-unit classroom block with a library, store and office for the Bepoase Presbyterian Primary School in the Ayensuano Distric, in the Eastern Region.

The ,000 project was on Wednesday jointly inaugurated by Ms Cheryl Anderson, USAID, Mission Director, and Mr Hubert Charles, National Director of the World Vision.

Mr Charles said the NGO had also provided two kindergartens and a seven-unit teachers' bungalow in the area.

He said that World Vision in collaboration with the District Directorate of Education had organized capacity building programmes for 700 teachers.

Mr Charles said 200 brilliant but needy girls, who dropped out of school, were supported to return to school.

He observed that the Area Development Programme  of the World Vision has helped to increase basic school enrolment in the area.

Mr Charles commended the USAID for implementing the Strengthening Community Care and Support of Orphan and Vulnerable Children project to the area.

He said 323 children had benefited from educational materials and psychosocial counseling, under the project.

Mr Charles said the project had also helped in the formation of 25 HIV alert clubs in primary and senior high schools in the district.

Mr Mike Ofori-Darko, the District Chief Executive for Ayensuano, expressed gratitude to the World Vision and USAID for their assistance.

He said the assembly would support the projects to ensure its successful implementation.

Mr Ofori-Darko appealed to the USAID to assist the assembly to provide good drinking water for the people, saying  the district was confronted with acute water problem, which becomes worse during the harmatan season.

The district with a population of about 60,709 people is one of the newly created districts in the region.
