The Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG) is urging government to prioritize Agricultural training institutions as has been done with teacher and health training institutions.
The Association wants government to ensure that graduates of agricultural institutions are employed withthe Ministry of Food and Agriculture, as teachers and nurses are directly absorbed by the Ghana Education Service and Ghana Health services.
They admonished government to make Extension services more lucrative so as to attract more youth and women into the sector.
These concerns were raised at a workshop on increasing agricultural extension services for small holder farmers in Techiman.
Ms. Lucy Awedagha, an officer at MOFA, said the advocacy is an eye opener, maintaining that some of the issues the Association raised will improve agriculture in the country if taken into consideration.
She however encouraged farmers to ensure that their produce arepresentable and capable of attracting customers.
