Takoradi, March. 22, GNA- Mr. Kwamena Acquah, the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Urban Water Company Limited in the Western Region on Friday said the pollution of water bodies in the country had affected the budget of the company with regards to water treatment.
He told the GNA in an interview that the use of mercury and cyanide by illegal miners in water bodies had compelled the company to spend a lot of money on chemicals to treat the polluted water for distribution.
Mr. Acquah said the company had to use chemicals twice the normal usage to treat polluted water, thus increasing the cost of production.
