Some NDC MPs need Parliamentary schooling – Minority leader

The Minority leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has expressed shock at what he says is the display of 'ignorance' by some members of the Majority caucus in Parliament.

He said comments by some neophyte Majority MPs with regards to the Minority's boycott of Parliament is an attestation that they don't understand the rules and procedures of the House.

The Minority leader was reacting to suggestions by some Majority MPs that their continuous boycott of Parliament is unconstitutional.

Some of the NDC MPs have also threatened to drag the Minority caucus to the Privileges Committee for misconduct.

But Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen programme Thursday recommended tutorials for the neophyte NDC MPs to broaden their understanding on parliamentary standing orders.

He said the amateur Majority MPs who are demonstrating their ignorance for publicity and to prove to their constituents that they are working are just a disappointment to their party.

The Minority leader stressed that boycott is part of parliamentary practice therefore the Minority MPs have not breached any constitutional provision.

Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said the Majority is equally liable for the same conduct and thus it is hypocritical on their part to criticize them.

“God forgive anyone who would say what we are doing is unconstitutional for they know not what they are doing” he added.

He added that it is their prerogative to decide whether to participate in the business of the House or not.

“Everybody has a right to be in Parliament at a given time; a parliamentarian can only be sanctioned if he or she is absent for a number of days”.
