Asutsuare (G/A), Aug 31, GNA - The Asutsuare Mantse, Nene Micheal Tetteh Ablorh IV, has called on the electorate to cherish and protect the unity that binds Ghanaians as one people and one nation with a common destiny.
He asked the people not to take the current peace prevailing in the country for granted, by doing anything that would result in violence as such behaviour would be detrimental to national development.
Nene Ablorh said there was the need to make concerted efforts to unite the country so as to reflect the true resemblance to the peace that Ghanaians continue to enjoy.
The Asutsuare Mantse said this during a meeting with his stool elders at Asutsuare in the Osudoku Traditional Area of the Greater Accra Region.
The 44-year-old chief who was enthroned on February 7, 1995, has a kingdom which spans from the Lemen bridge - Asutsuare Estates, through Yokpe village, Kewu Atrovenya, Avakpo and Bala.
His indigenes, the last population census revealed, were about 3,000 people mostly engaging in crop farming.
Nene Ablorh, also the Liaison Officer of the Volta River Estate, a banana farm site D at Domeleam, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that there was a growing political intolerance in the society and that the situation needed an urgent attention which should be handled carefully in order to ensure absolute peace and stability in the impending 2012 presidential and parliamentary elections.
Nene Ablorh used the interaction with the GNA to appeal to supporters of the two main political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to exercise restraint as the nation prepares for the impending elections.
He called on political leaders to avoid maligning and insulting their opponents saying they should endeavour to conduct a clean campaign in the 2012 general elections.
He urged politicians to be circumspect in their utterances on political platforms, so as not to plunge the whole nation into chaos in the coming elections.
