The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has lauded the health policies promised by the NPP in its 2012 manifesto.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in its 2012 manifesto has promised to seek other sources of funding to support the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The party also pledged to control the brain drain affecting the health sector by instituting more health colleges such as the College of Physicians and Surgeons.
Speaking to Citi News , the President of the GMA, Dr. Kwabena Adusei Poku expressed the hope that the NPP would not treat the initiatives as mere campaign promises.
He said: 'The Ghana Medical Association was institutional in the setting up of the National Health Insurance Scheme. So whatever is done to improve the system is welcome. I have not read the manifesto but whatever anybody will do to improve the health sector is welcome because we can never go back to cash and carry.'
Dr. Adusei Poku however added that 'we leave it to Ghanaians because they seek health care because they know whether the aims and objectives of the NHIS has been achieved so it has been welcomed.'
