Controversies over F.A Cup winners
07.08.2012 LISTEN

It would interest you to know that before this morning, most Ghanaians had the records of the most prestigious cup in the annals of Ghanaian football, wrong.

On the ultimate Sports Show on Asempa fm, the issue of the number of titles won by each club in the F.A Cup came up, after New Edubiase won the 34th edition of the F.A Cup on Sunday 5th August, 2012. It became necessary to know all the previous winners of the F.A Cup.

Pundits have been quick to come out with the following statistics concerning the previous winners based on information from some websites:

Number of Titles Clubs
9 Hearts of Oak (Accra)
8 Asante Kotoko (Kumasi)
4 Real Republicans (Accra) (1 shared)

3 Great Olympics (Accra)
2 Cornerstones (Kumasi) (1 shared)

1 Eleven Wise (Sekondi)
1 Mysterious Dwarfs (Cape Coast)

1 Okwahu United (Nkawkaw)
1 Ghapoha (Tema)
1 Goldfields (Obuasi)
1 Hasaacas (Sekondi)
1 Voradep (Ho)
1 Nania Fc
1 New Edubiase
I state with all equivocation that the above list is incorrect because on Sunday 5th August, 1990, Kumasi Asante Kotoko beat Accra Hearts of Oak 4-2, Isaac Kwakye, Joe Debrah and Robert Eshun scored the goals for Kotoko to beat Hearts of Oak whose goals were scored by Yaw Preko and Ablade Kumah in the F.A Cup final. The following day, which is 6th August, 1990 Hearts of Oak lodged a protest with the GFA that Joe Debrah who played a key role in Kotoko's victory was unqualified because he had yellow cards in OGLCA Cup, League and F.A Cup. The Disciplinary Committee, after sitting on the case declared Kotoko losers on 28th October, 1990 and an appeal by Kotoko was quashed by the Appeals Committee. As a result of this it makes Hearts of Oak the 1990 F.A Cup winners instead of Kotoko.

This is the correct winners list of the F.A Cup

The information is very credible and authentic, because I have set the following records straight and no one has been able to challenge any of them.

(1) I came out that Agyeman Badu's nation cup goal against Guinea in the AFCON 2012, was not Ghana's 100th nations cup, but it was our 99th AFCON goal after everybody thought it was our 100th goal in the nations cup.

(2) I challenged Kotoko's 22nd league title and now everybody has accepted the fact that it was Kotoko's 21st league title, including Kotoko express, the official mouth piece of Kotoko.

(3) I set the records straight about Ghana's highest victory and heaviest defeat.

(4) I set the records straight about the previous winners of the SWAG Awards.
