Ensure your girl child is in school urges new CCFC Country Director

Tamale, June 8, GNA - Mrs Gifty Akosua Baka, Country Director of Christian Children's Fund of Canada, (CCFC) a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has urged parents to educate their girl-children to prepare them for the socio-economic development of the country.

“The role of females has become paramount to the socio-economic development of every nation,” she said in an interview with the Ghana News Agency.

She said education is the tool that could wipe away poverty in rural communities especially in most part of the country where the phenomenon is endemic.

Mrs Baka took over from Mrs Sanatu Nantogma who retired after 16 years of service to the organisation on May 2.

Mrs Baka is a social scientist, community developer, and a former Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Legon.

Before assuming the role as Country Director, she worked for Actionaid Ghana, another NGO as a human rights activist and HIV and AIDS campaigner with a passion for girls' education.

CCFC is a child focused development organisation, which has worked in the Northern Region for the last 16 years with the mission to create a future of hope for children, families, and communities by helping them develop the skills and resources to overcome poverty and pursue justice.

It is Canadian-based, registered charity and child-centred international development organisation inspired by Christ's example of personal care and love for humanity.

It follows the example of Christ who served the poor regardless of their faith, culture, and ethnic background.

In the Region, it works in nine districts with its core programmes focused on Education, Health and Nutrition, Water and Sanitation.

Sustainable livelihood development and institutional strengthening and capacity building are some other activities of the CCFC.

The organisation also works in four districts in the Region on HIV and AIDS in partnership with Ghana AIDS Commission.
