Legon Organises Job Fair

The University of Ghana, Legon, in collaboration with other organisations, opened a job fair to give students the opportunity to link up with employment organisations and prepare appropriately for the world of work.

The fair had several organisations exhibiting and providing information for the students on pre and post employment skills.

Among the organisations were Schlumberger, an oil and gas firm, Micright Grp (Ghana) Limited and L’AiNNE, a Human Resource solutions provider, as well as several other banks.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Ernest Aryeetey, opened the fair, went round the various exhibition stands and interacted with the representatives of the various organisations.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic, Prof. Aryeetey expressed the hope that with the maiden International Education Fair and Homecoming Event, subsequent ones would witness better participation and support from the alumnae.

He commended the alumni of the Faculty of Agriculture and the College of Health Sciences who had actively participated in the activities marking the homecoming day of their respective faculties.

Prof. Aryeetey expressed the hope that with the right publicity, the planned yearly event would become a major event on the educational calender each year.

Officials of Schlumberger, an oil and gas field services company, interacted with students and provided them with information and responses to their enquiries.

The officials said they would have a career talk with students and collect their applications for possible internship or employment.

They said students of the Faculty of Engineering Sciences and the Faculty of Science were their targets.

Officials of Micright Grp (Ghana) Limited and L’AiNNE, both human resource solution providers, were also at hand, furnishing students with information on their services.

The International Education Fair and Home Coming Event began on November 4, 2011, and ended on November 20, 2011.

The event, the first of its kind, was to project the University of Ghana as the prefered academic and research institution and showcase its work over the years.

It was also to provide the alumni the opportunity to revisit the school to find out the developments that have taken place and give organisations the opportunity to collaborate with the University of Ghana in the development of the requisite human capacity for the world of work.
