Second Mobile Telecoms Awards Held

The second Mobile Telecom Awrds to reward excellence in the mobile telecommunicatins industry in the country has been held in Accra.

The ceremony which was preceded with a summit where industry players shared ideas relating to the sector, is also intended to heighten competition within the fast growing sector in the country.

At the awards ceremony at the weekend, Vodafone Ghana swept six major awards to emerge as the overall best telecoms company in the country.

Out of the 18 different categories, Vodafone emerged winner as the Best in Customer Care, Best Telecom Brand, Best Marketing Campaign, Best Business and Enterprise Solutions Provider.

The Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone, Mr Kyle Whitehill, also emerged as the Best Telecom CEO for the Year, beating Mr Philip Sowah of Airtel to the position he won last year.

Ms Patricia Obo-Nai, Chief Operating Officer of Vodafone also won the Special Recognition for the female Technologist of the year

MTN Ghana, the market leader in the telecoms industry in the country, also emerged winner in two different categories; Telecom Operator Of The Year and the Best Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative.

The other category winners included Rancord Solutions; Best Software Company of the Year while the Best Internet Provider Award went to Busy Internet.

The Best Bank in Information Technology award was taken by Guaranty Trust Bank (GT) which also happens to be the reining Bank of the Year.

The Telecom Equipment Vendor of the Year went to Ericsson while the Phone of the Year award went to Techno Phone.

Wholesale Provider of the Year was won by MainOne Cable with the Most Innovative Mobile Product went to Tigo Mobile Insurance. The Infrastructure Company of the Year went to Hellios Towers.

The Director-general of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Mr Paarock Van Percy was given a special recognition award for his services to the growth of the telecom Industry category while The Mobile World Lifetime Achievement was given to Mr Herman Chinnery Hesse.

Mr Whitehill in an interview with the Daily Graphic later after the ceremony attributed the overall successes of the company to dedication and zeal of the staff of the company to succeed.

He gave the assurance that the company will continue to introduce new products that will meet the aspirations of its customers and also serve as the bait to attract new customers to be part of the Vodafone family.

The Vodafone CEO also assured Ghanaians of the company’s commitment to providing superior telecom and internet services while working to ensure maximum customer satisfaction comparable to any part of the world.

“We want to help Ghana move forward; we are going to be bigger and the strongest in voice calls and broadband services to give Ghanaians value for money,” he added.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, the Managing Director of GT Bank, Mr Olalekan Sanusi said he was not surprised his outfit was awarded.

“We knew we were going to win because we have worked very hard in the area of technology to satisfy our customers,” he said.
