Vodafone sweeps six awards at Ghana Telecom Awards

Accra , April 23, GNA - Vodafone Ghana won six out of 17 competitive awards at the Second Mobileworld Ghana Telecom Awards, including the prestigious Telecom Chief Executive of the year.

Vodafone took home the Telecom Brand of the Year award, the Customer Service of the Year and Marketing Campaign of the Year awards, beating strong rivals Airtel and MTN.

Other awards taken were Best Business/Enterprise Service of the Year, which went to Vodafone Business Solutions and also the Best Female Technologist Award, which went to female Chief Technical Officer, Patricia Obo-Nai.

MTN Ghana won the overall award of the Telecom Operator of the Year and also the best in Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative of the Year.

Tigo won the Best Innovative Mobile Product of the Year for its mobile-based insurance scheme while Airtel Money, was adjudged the Mobile Service of the Year.

Awards were also given to other operators in the telecommunication sector, including vendors, tower companies, ISP's (internet service providers), handset dealers and content providers.

Tecno Phone won the Phone of the Year award, Busy Internet the ISP of the Year, and GT Bank Best use of ICT in Banking.

Other winners are Ericsson the Best Equipment Vendor of the Year; Infrastructure Company of the Year Helios Towers; Wholesale Provider of the Year was Main One and Best Software Company of the Year was Rancard Solutions.

Some individuals also received special awards including the Director-General of National Communication Authority (NCA), Paarock VanPercy, who took an award for his Commitment to the Telecom Industry while Herman Chinnery-Hesse took the MobileWorld Lifetime Achievement Award.

Vodafone Ghana CEO, Kyle Whitehill said the awards would spur the company on to come out with innovative products that meet customers' needs and aspirations.

He lauded the staff for their professionalism and team work that had brought success to the company and said the future held bright for customers.

The awards ceremony was organized by Instinct Wave Limited, publishers of Mobileworld Magazine.

CEO of Instinct Wave Limited, Akin Naphtal underscored the important contribution of the telecom industry to Ghana's economy, especially in areas of revenue generation and employment.

The awards round up the two-day telecom summit which was held on the theme “Consolidating the Growth in the ICT Industry,”, and was sponsored by Helios Tower Ghana and ATC Tower Ghana Limited.
