Accra, April 19, GNA - The Effutu Aboakyer Board with the Effutu Municipal Assembly has informed the public that the Aboakyer Festival has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 19.
A statement issued by Mr Kingsley Selby-Acquah, Secretary to the Board, explained that the festival originally scheduled for Saturday, May 5, had to be rescheduled because of the Biometric Voter Registration Exercise and its attendant security implications.
"The Board, therefore, expresses regret for any inconvenience that this may cause the will-be tourists," it said.
The festival is traditionally celebrated on the first Saturday of May each year to usher in the season of fishing and farming, which are the major occupation of the inhabitants of Effutu Traditional Area.
It assured citizens in the traditional area as well as the public that the postponement would not affect the pomp, pageantry and the ecstasy, which have always characterised the celebration of this unique festival that continues to draw hundreds of both domestic and foreign tourists to Winneba, the seat of the paramountcy.
