Government releases GH¢ 50,000 to complete Atiavi Clinic

Atiavi (V/R), April 09, GNA - Mr Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development has said government has released GH¢ 50,000 to facilitate the construction of a new Clinic and water project at Atiavi in the Volta Region.

Mr Afriyie-Ankrah said it was government intension to deliver on its promise by providing the citizenry with developmental projects especially in small and rural communities.

The Minister said this at the 2012 Easter Durbar for the Atiavi Development Association (ADA) in the Volta Region on the theme “Creating Awareness towards Building a Healthier Community: The Role of a Citizen”.

Mr Afriyie-Ankrah made a personal donation of GH¢ 2,000 towards the community celebration and commended the entire leadership of ADA for its dedication to the development needs of the community.

He said as the election approached, he was optimistic the people of the community would renew their mandate to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to continue to prosecute the better Ghana agenda.

Torgbi Akamu Adri IV, Chief of Atiavi Community, congratulated government and the executives of ADA for their sense of duty and hard work exhibited over the years in developing the community.

Torgbi Adri IV appealed to government to continue to collaborate with the leaders in the community to ensure rapid socio-economic development of Atiavi and expressed concern about education in the community adding that some parents had not shown seriousness in seeking the education of their wards which has led to the creeping of social vices into the society.

He said the town is now in perpetual fear due to the scarcity of police officers in the town and appealed to government and the community to help staff the station with sufficient policemen t reduces the problem.

Torgbi Adri IV appealed to the citizens to help in addressing the health needs and rehabilitation of the of the community market.

Mr Gershon Kwabla Yakawonya, National Chairman of ADA, said since he assumed office in 2008, its outfit had provided the necessary facilities to help alleviate poverty among the citizens by generating income to develop the community.

Mr Yakawonya said with support and patronage of the Chiefs and the Atiavi community, it was able to raise funds to augment developmental activities in the town which included the Atiavi Water Project commissioned a year ago by Dr Hannah Louisa Bissiw, the then Deputy Minister of Water Resource, Works and Housing.

Mr Yakawonya said the ADA with assistance Mr Afriyie-Ankrah and Anita De Sosou, the Women's Organizer for NDC facilitated the procurement of resources for the construction of two one-storey building for girls and boys dormitories for the Atiavi Senior High Technical School.

He said a ten-unit classroom block for the Atiavi Agbodekor Junior High School has been equipped with computers and accessories for use by the students.

Mr Yakawonya urged members of ADA to initiate more developmental projects for the community and called for unity, peace and harmony for the development of the community.

He said GH¢ 8,000 were generated from fund- raising to complete the maternity block of the Atiavi clinic.

Mr Afriyie-Ankrah and Dr Hannah Bissiw were presented with plaques for their immense contribution to the development of the community.
