Government awards Birim South District roads on contract for rehabilitation

Akim-Aprede (E/R), Jan. 2, GNA - Government has awarded the Akyem Aperade-Akinkensu-Brofoyedru and Canaan-Achiase road in the Eastern Region, on contract for rehabilitation.

The Akim Oda-Achiase road is also being processed to be awarded on contract for rehabilitation.

The Regional Minister, Dr Akwasi Akyem Apea-Kubi made this known at a fundraising durbar in aid of the Akyem –Aperade Community Senior High School (SHS) at Akyem Aperade on New Year's Day.

He said within the last three years, government had initiated 650 development projects in the region including 420 educational projects.

Dr Apea-Kubi said this year 25 major roads in the area have been earmarked for reconstruction.

He said it is his vision to ensure that Akim Swedru SHS, Achiase SHS and Akyem Aperade SHS all in the Birim South District are developed so that no child in the area would be denied secondary education.

Dr Apea-Kubi promised to work towards additional projects for Akyem Aperade SHS and use his personal resources to get a computer laboratory for the school.

He appealed to the traditional authorities and the management of the school to ensure that a land title deed is completed for the school to help protect the land from encroachment.

The Member of Parliament for the Area, Mr Amoah Bosompem who was represented at the function, donated GH¢ 500 to the school and promised to donate four sets of computers estimated at GH¢ 6,000 to the academic facility.

Nana Baafour Takyi, District Chief Executive, called on the people in the area to give all the necessary support for the development of the school.

The Chief of the area, Obrempong Owusu Twum Barimah I, and his elders donated GH¢ 2,000 to the school while the Aperade Youth Association, a social club also donated exercise books, pens, pencils and school bags.

The appeal for fund yielded GH¢ 8,800.
