Anloga, Nov 30, GNA-Mrs Betty Mould-Iddrisu, Minister of Education has reiterated government's commitment to expand infrastructure and increase access to quality education in the country.
She said the level of infrastructure development being witnessed under the current regime was unprecedented and remained in full gear.
Mrs Mould-Iddrisu was addressing the 74th Speech Day of Zion College (ZICO), Volta Region's first second cycle school, at the weekend at Anloga.
The celebration which was a precursor to the school's 75th Anniversary celebration in 2012, was on the theme “Enhancing Studies and Infrastructure Development - A Key to Successful Education”.
The Minister said government would not toy with education, and urging all other stakeholders to lend their support to ensure quality education.
She paid tribute to the late Rev Ferdinand Fiawoo of the Zion Church who founded the school in 1937, for his foresight and asked others to emulate him.
Mrs Mould-Iddrisu commended teachers and students for the success chalked over the years.
She asked other stakeholders including parents to be role-models and collaborate to mold the students into useful citizens.
The Minister decried the “increasing levels” of indiscipline in schools, saying it had the danger of eroding all investments the government and parents put in the youth.
She assured the authorities of the institution that its infrastructure and logistic problems would be tackled, starting with a new kitchen.
Mr Theophilus Asravor, Headmaster, said the student population was 1,227 out of whom 543 were girls.
He said the school's performance at the final examination was excellent, obtaining 98 per cent passes and above in the past four years.
Mr Asravor appealed for the construction of classrooms, boys dormitory, Assembly hall and teachers' quarters.
Miss Vero Anani-Manyo, Assistant Girls Prefect advised colleagues against copying bad behavior. They should also study hard to justify the huge investments being made in their education.
