The Francophone Unit   within the Church of   Pentecost has extended its  humanitarian mission to the Egyeikrom Refugee Camp, which is housing over 2,000 Ivorians affected by the political feud.

Alarmed at the plight of the Ivorian refugees, the church made a cash donation of GH¢1,000 in addition to some food and sanitary items, to help reduce the numerous hardship conditions they are going through.

Among the food and sanitary items include a bag of beans, a bag of gari, a bag of maize, three gallons of cooking oil, a carton of tomato paste, a carton of washing powder, ten bags of rice, two cartons of soap, a carton of New Testament Bibles, and some French Christian literature books.

According to the church, the gesture was a result of 'the spirit of God that prompted the church and the pastor about the camp.'

Elder Jonas Kabore, District Secretary, Francophone Union, PIWC, who led the ten-man delegation to the refugee camp, told The Chronicle that the aim of their visit was to manifest the love of Christ.

Presenting the items to the inmates, Elder Kabore prayed for peace to reign in the camp throughout their stay, and expressed the hope that 'a day will come that they will return peacefully to their country, and pursue their various activities.'

Prior to the presentation, Elder Kabore, together with his entourage, led the inmates in a 20-minute worship of God.

Reading from Acts 10:34, Elder Kabore entreated the people to live worthy lives that would please God. By so doing, he said, God would, in turn, lift them up and make them worthy ambassadors wherever they find themselves.

'If you want favour from God, fear Him and practice His word. If you practice his word, he will be pleased with you, and make you his son or daughter, just like he did to Abraham,' noted Elder Kabore.

The Chairman of the camp, Mr. Koviboni Regobert, who received the items on behalf of the inmates, thanked the Church for the gesture.

According to him, apart from some individuals visiting the camp regularly to give them a helping hand, the Church of Pentecost was the only local organisation that had come to their aid with 'such wonderful items' and a cash donation.

He shared his experience in the refugee camp with the delegation, and noted that 'you should have lived in a refugee camp in order to appreciate the people who come to visit you.'

He told the delegation that ever since their arrival in the camp, not a single occultic practitioner had visited them, an indication, he noted, attested to the fact that 'Ghana is a Christian country.'
