Apam (C/R), Nov 30, GNA – The Gomoa West District Coordinating Director, Mr Peter Antwi-Boasiako has stated that it is unlawful for anyone to erect a sign post without obtaining a permit from Metropolitan, Municipal or District Assemblies.

The Coordinating Director made the call at the Third Ordinary Meeting of the First session of the Sixth assembly at Apam on Tuesday.

Mr Antwi-Boasiako cautioned against blocking of roads for funerals or for the purpose of public gathering without notifying the Assemblies.

He urged communication service providers to show plans for erecting masts to the Assembly for approval before they could go ahead to erect them.

He called on chain-saw owners to register their machines with the District Assemblies, and reminded them that chain-saw operations were still illegal..

Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, District chief Executive, in an address said 1,464 youth in the District were benefiting from the National Youth Employment Programme and appealed to women to engage themselves in modules like auto-mechanics and mobile phone repairing.

He said none of the modules must be regarded as a preserve for men.

Mr Aidoo-Mensah said during the launch of the Campaign on Maternal Mortality Reduction in Ghana by the First Lady, Mrs Ernestina Naadu Mills in Elmina recently, he pledged on behalf of the Assembly to rehabilitate and equip the maternity wards of three health centres in the District, and to provide a vehicle to the District Health Directorate to undertake intensive health education in the District.

The DCE said as part of the effort of the Government to fight and control malaria in the country, a National Insecticide Treated Bed Net Hang-up Campaign had been launched under which over one million nets were going to be distributed free of charge throughout the District from November 28 to December 10 this year.

He said the Assembly was expected to contribute GH₵2,000.00 towards the cost of the nets and another GH₵1,000.00 to support the volunteers who would be going from room to room to hang the nets.

Mr Aidoo-Mensah appealed to members of the Assembly to get involved in the campaign in their communities.

Mr Anthony Eyiah-Quansah, Presiding Member, appealed to the Assembly members to organise town hall meetings from time to time and invite the District Chief Executive to address them on some pertinent issues.

He assured the administration that members would do their best to ensure that collection of revenue, especially property rates, was improved.

The Assembly approved the Fee Fixing Resolution for 2012 and the Composite Budget.
