Nyaho-Tamakloe cautions government over interference in FAs activities

A former Ghana Football Association chairman, Nyaho Tamakloe has said if Ghana is serious about keeping the goodwill that she currently enjoys from the international football community intact then, the government must stop interfering unnecessarily in the affairs of the Football Association.

“Ghana must forget about landing the top CAF job if she nominates Abedi Pele for the position,” he said.

According to him, the uncompromising relationship between the three times African footballer of the year and CAF boss Issa Hayatou makes the former unattractive for the job.

His comments follow a recent government-FA controversy where government through the Sports Minister Akua Sena-Dansua, sought to override the FA's decision to appoint Kwesi Nyantakyi for a CAF position.

“If I were to be in his position I will not attempt at all because it is going to be another problem between CAF and FIFA,” he said

Dr. Tamakloe explained that Abedi Pele to the surprise of many rooted for FIFA boss president Sepp Blatter when Issa Hayatou declared his intention to vie for FIFA's topmost job.

He contended Abedi Pele will obviously not have the support of Hayatou should Ghana nominate him for the job.

On the contrary, he said Kwasi Nyantakyi will seal the job on a silver platter if he should be nominated.

“I know Kwesi all too well to conclude he is the right person for the job. He has worked his way up to the top and nothing at this point can stop him. Overwhelmingly, he is liked. His credentials and achievements as FA Chairman have also been of good help to the country as a whole. Do you drop someone like this and go for Abedi, certainly not,” he said.

Dr. Tamakloe wondered why there is still interference of government in football claiming that was one thing he fiercely resisted when he was at post.
