The Media Analysts Group (MAG), a pressure group believed to be an affiliate to the left-wing ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has linked the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the recent highway robbery and mass rape saga.
'We are of the firm conviction that the story was created by them (NPP) to discredit the Mills administration, and that is why the IGP, Paul Tawiah Quaye, the CDS, Lt. General Peter Augustine Blay, National Security Coordinator, Lt. Col. Larry Gbevlo Lartey, Defence Minister, Lt. General Joseph Henry Smith, and the Interior Minister, Martin Amidu, must move their machinery into high gear, and make sure that the perpetrators of this evil, wicked, and nation-wrecking agenda are apprehended, exposed, and severely punished,' said the group's spokesperson, Peter Amekwashie.
The MAG made this pronouncement in Accra yesterday, when it interacted with a group of media personnel to show their support to President Mills' call on the security agencies to expose and punish those behind the highway robbery and mass rape incident.
However, the opposition NPP, led by its National Chairman, Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey, has described the allegations leveled against his party as 'nonsense,' and a calculated plot to tarnish the image of the party.
Amina versus the police
The Kubease highway robbery and mass rape allegation gained prominence when a lady, Amina Mohammed, who claimed to be onboard the bus when the incident happened, walked into the studio of Adom FM to narrate her story.
The story has since generated intense controversy among the general public, with President Mills summoning the security heads for a discussion over the issue.
Amina Mohammed was, however, picked up by the police on Saturday, October 30, to assist in investigations.
She was subsequently, charged by the police with publishing false information with the intent to cause fear and alarm among the populace.
She is currently languishing in police custody upon the orders of an Accra Circuit Court when she appeared it on Tuesday, November 2, 2010.
The Minister for the Interior, Martin Amidu, on Tuesday, told members of parliament that Amina Mohammed could not meet the bail conditions given to her by the police, hence the inability of the police to release her.
NPP fingered
The MAG, however, believes that the NPP masterminded the story being told by Amina Mohammed, since the party was short of campaign strategies to propel it to victory.
To MAG, the NPP is 'unable to find solid grounds to campaign on, and has decided to adopt this 'modus operandi' of creating panic and fear to dent the image of the Atta Mills administration, hoping that the party will benefit from it.'
According to MAG, 'the fear and panic tactic is a tool that the erstwhile Danquah/Busia 'Mate Me Hu' political grouping used in the past.
'In the year 2000, they killed innocent women and littered the nation with their dead bodies. Of course, the trick worked for them, because Ghanaians innocently bought into their agenda, only for them to spend eight years, stealing, looting, and turning Ghana into a cocaine coast,' alleged the MAG.
NPP helped oust Nkrumah from power
The MAG again, accused the Danquah/Busia group of supporting the CIA to overthrow Ghana's first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, by planting and throwing bombs to create fear and panic.
According to MAG, some current leading members of NPP were the young boys who were in the evil and wicked business of detonating bombs all over the country, maiming and killing innocent Ghanaians, at the behest of the Danquah/Busia tradition.
'Of course, the President himself, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, had his share of the evil bombing agenda, when a bomb was placed in a bouquet and given to him at Kulungugu.
'Because the evil agenda of the Danquah/Busia group knows no bounds, they could not be bothered that the bomb in the bouquet was going to kill an innocent school girl,' argued Peter Amekwashie.
Amina is a card-bearing member of the NPP
To buttress their claim of linking the NPP to the highway robbery and mass rape saga, MAG said the lady at the centre of the controversy, 'Amina Mohammed, is a card-bearing member of the NPP,' hence their strong conviction that the opposition rightwing party concocted the story.
But, when pressed to further substantiate their claim, MAG could not give any evidence as to which constituency Amina belongs to, let alone her party's card number.
The Group, however, pledged to corporate with the security agencies to unearth the truth behind the story, to 'help Ghanaians decide for themselves if they will ever want to give political power to a group of people who wish the nation dead, just because they are not in power.'
Accusations are nonsense
Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, National Chairman of the NPP has, meanwhile, described the accusations of the ruling government as nonsense and baseless.
He was reported by Peace FM to have described the NDC as being 'among the biggest liars in the country,' and questioned what the NPP would gain from creating panic among the public by orchestrating the story.
