Sunyani, July 28, GNA - A magistrate court in Sunyani has remanded a 26-year-old pregnant woman into prison custody for killing her one-and-half-year old baby girl.
The plea of Ama Tusor was not taken and was ordered to re-appear on August 20.
The presiding judge Mr. Joseph Mensah ordered prosecution to take her to a psychiatric hospital to ascertain whether or not she had a mental problem.
Police Sergeant Faustina Celestina Anaman told the court that on July 16 a farmer heard neighbours shouting that the accused had thrown her child into a pit latrine.
When the farmer questioned Ama about it she admitted she had dumped the child into the pit latrine and led him to the place in the company of some neighbours.
The farmer sent the accused to the police station and reported the case after which the police went to the scene and with the assistance of some neighbours brought the child out from the pit but was found dead.
Sergeant Anaman said the accused stated in her cautioned statement that the baby died before she dumped her in the latrine.
