National carrier Ghana International Airlines (GIA) says there was no explosion aboard its aircraft that was involved in the emergency landing in Algeria on Saturday.

The pilot is said to have made a precautionary landing after he detected a "fault in the hydraulic system".

One passenger Joy News spoke to alleged there was a loud explosion before the crew announced the emergency landing.

The airline however denies this. According to a GIA statement, “all 133 passengers and crew on board the aircraft were safe and at no point was the aircraft in any danger”.

It said “all other Ghana International Airlines flights over the weekend operated per schedule with a replacement aircraft” and that “the original aircraft was inspected and has since returned to service”.
