NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC Congress (NDC) General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, and National Chairman, Dr. Kwabena Adjei, have jointly declared their intentions to again contest the positions in the forthcoming National Delegates Congress of the party, slated for January 16, 2010 at Tamale in the Northern region.
At a press conference in Accra yesterday, several aspirants took turns to make their intentions known.
DAILY GUIDE learnt that Dr. Adjei rejected an ambassadorial position to Australia and rather took on the GETFund Chairmanship position in order to be around to run the party.
Persons aspiring for other national executive positions include Kofi Portuphy, National Vice Chairman alongside Capt. Kwadwo Buta; Anita Jemima De-Sosoo, National Women's Organiser; Yaw Boateng Gyan, National Organiser; Fiifi Ankrah, Deputy National Propaganda Secretary; Fred Agbenyo, Deputy National Youth Organiser; Nii Djanmah Vanderpuye, Deputy General Secretary.
Others are Mrs. Alice Teni Boon, National Women's Organiser; Alhaji Baba Sheriff, Deputy National Organiser; Fred Agbenyo, Deputy Youth Organiser; Peter Boamah Otokunor, Deputy Propaganda Secretary; Agnes Adomah, Deputy Women's Organiser; Bertha Amenuvor and Camel Norshie, position of Treasurer respectively; Nii Larbi Mahama, Deputy National Youth Organiser, while George Lawson is vying for the Deputy General Secretary position, and for the National Youth Organiser, Ludwig Hlodze.
The rest are Alhaji Awudu Arriff, National Organiser; Adams Abdul Nasser, Deputy Secretary; P. K. Abone, Deputy National Organiser and Margaret Chiravira, Deputy Women's Organiser,
However, Mr. Portuphy, the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) boss, was not available to announce his intention though he is in the race.
He is currently in Copenhagen engaged in the United Nations Conference on Climate Change.
Mr. Nketia, known also in political circles as General Mosquito, urged the delegates to retain Dr. Kwabena Adjei for his sterling qualities.
He prophesied that Dr. Adjei would win the position again and advised those with intentions of challenging him to forget it because, as he put it, they would surely lose.
However, the General himself held back his intentions, hoping to declare it at the appropriate time. But he was quick to add that the earlier initiative of declaring their intentions jointly was hatched by the two of them.
Further in his delivery, he said he had known and worked with the chairman for so many years, including the legislature and other government appointments.
Dr. Adjei, during his address, told delegates who attended the function that when given the nod again he would restructure the party since, according to him; he has the interest of the party at heart and would do everything possible to enhance unity among members.
He said he would provide inspirational leadership to ensure that the party retains power in the 2012 general elections.
