Bolgatanga, Dec. 12, GNA - The Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has warned people in the Bongo District who are lynching suspected witches and wizards to desist from the act or face the rigours of the law.
The District Director, Mr. Amos Ayuure issued the warning during a forum on "Good Governance and Human Rights" organised by the Bongo Civic Union (BODCU), a civil society group at Bongo at the weekend.
He explained that under the 1992 constitution it was wrong for anyone to take another person's life.
Mr. Ayuure said between 80 to 90 per cent cases CHRAJ received at the district were on child neglect and attributed the situation to high teenage pregnancies, early and forced marriages.
He asked the people to report all corruption cases to the commission and said informants would be protected under the Whistle Blower Act.
The Secretary of BODCU, Mr. Anthony Agamboka commended Ibis West Africa for sponsoring the Programme.
He said BODCU aimed at advocating good governance, human rights and freedom of the individual.
Mr. Emmanuel Nsor-Atindana Presiding Member of the district assembly expressed regret about the murder of people suspected to be witches or wizards and said the situation was on the rise because the perpetrators are not punished.
