Bicycle repairer remanded in police custody for allegedly causing harm

Accra, Nov. 3, GNA - A 19-year-old bicycle repairer Dandumah Mustapha was on Tuesday remanded into police custody by an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly causing harm to Abubakar Ibrahim.

Mustapha pleaded not guilty and was remanded by the court presided over by Mr D.E.K. Darkeste to re-appear on November 12.

Police Chief Inspector Ben Darfour, prosecuting, told the court that, Mr. Ibrahim, an electrician and the accused are neighbours living at Madina Zongo junction.

He said during the evening of October 28, this year, Ibrahim went to the mosque to pray and on his way back, the accused ambushed him and hit him (Ibrahim) with a bicycle chain which made him fall after which the accused picked a piece of cement block and hit his head until he (Ibrahim) bled and slipped into coma.

Police Chief Inspector Darfour said after the incident, the accused took to his heels but someone came by and took Ibrahim to a nearby hospital and a complaint was lodged with the police who arrested the accused and after investigations charged with the offence.
