Chairman of the Tema District Council of Labour Wilson Agana has hinted of a nationwide industrial unrest if government fails to provide crude oil for the smooth operation of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR).
He told Joy News government has two weeks to fulfill its pledge of bringing the refinery back on track after it was shut down nine months ago.
The council arrived at the decision following the receipt of a petition from the TOR workers who are worried over the present situation at TOR.
The workers accuse some members of the Energy Ministry of exploiting the precarious situation at TOR for their own personal gains.
The workers allege that officials at the ministry import and later sell refined products at higher prices at the expense of the refinery which has the statutory mandate to refine crude oil.
The council's ultimatum comes just a day after President John Evans Attah Mills assured TOR workers that government will make crude oil available for the refinery as soon as possible.
Mr Agana said they will mount serious pressure on government if it fails to provide the crude oil in two weeks.
He dismissed assertions that the council is a toothless dog saying it will mount a nationwide pressure on government to bring the refinery back on track.
