Mr. Kwesi Enyan, currently General Manager Operations and Deputy Managing Director of Obuasi Mine, has been appointed to the position of Managing Director of the Obuasi Mine, and the appointment takes effect from Monday, 14 September 2009.
Mr. Enyan will be responsible for all operations and activities in the mine, and report directly to Keith Faulkner, Vice President, AngloGold Ashanti Ghana.
Kwesi was educated at United Kingdom's Camborne School of Mines, where he obtained a BSc degree in Mining Engineering in 1983.
He joined the then Ashanti Goldfields Company 14 years ago, as a Hydrafill Engineer, and until his new appointment was General Manager and Deputy Managing Director for the mine.
He has also undertaken several courses in management in Ghana and abroad.
His previous career includes work with the then Ghana Government-owned State Gold Mining Corporation, as a mining trainee from 1979 to 1980, a stint with Tarkwa Mine as Technical Mining Assistant and Shift boss, from 1984 to 1987.
He also worked with the Mine's Inspectorate Department for eight years, from 1987 to 1995.
Kwesi Enyan is taking over from Mr. Faulkner, who has been playing the dual role of AGA Vice-President Ghana and Managing Director, Obuasi, to enable Mr. Faulkner move to the AGA Accra Office to focus on his role as the Vice-President Ghana, responsible for the Obuasi and Iduapriem operations.
Commenting on the appointment Mr. Faulkner said, “I am delighted to confirm the appointment of Kwesi Enyan as the Managing Director of the Obuasi operation, and I trust that you will give him support as we continue our journey to a safer, a more productive and a more prosperous operation. Please join me in congratulating Kwesi on this appointment, and wish him well in his new responsibilities.”
Kwesi Enyan, 52, who is also Chairman of the Interim Management Committee of Ashantigold Sporting Club, is happily married to Mrs. Hager Ama Enyan, with five children.
