The Deputy Director General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Kwabena Sarpong Anane has commended the efforts of the new Board of Directors of the Corporation to transform it. Mr. Sarpong Anane made the remarks when he interacted with staff of Volta Star Radio in Ho during his two-day official visit to the Region.
According to him, the Board has initiated a strategic development plan to lift the Corporation out of its present state. He disclosed that the GBC transmission equipment will be changed from analogue to digital by the end of the year and test transmission is in progress in some parts of Accra and Kumasi.
The Deputy Director General also disclosed that GBC is working towards becoming a public broadcaster and underscored the need for public support to carry out this agenda. He therefore asked staff of Volta Star Radio to help educate the public on the new direction of GBC. Some workers complained of low remuneration, non-hazardous allowances and understaffing in the technical division.
Contract staff and those under the National Youth Employment appealed to management to make them permanent staff. The Volta Regional Director of GBC, Ralph Avonyo commended workers for their sacrifice and immense contributions to the Corporation. He called on workers to continue to work hard to lift the image of the Corporation.
