Kumasi, June 26, GNA – Mr. Kofi Opoku Manu, Ashanti Regional Minister, has asked Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to improve on revenue mobilization to generate more funds for development.
He also asked the assemblies to create favourable conditions for people to invest in social and economic ventures to attract tax.
Mr. Manu, who was speaking at the inauguration of the reconstituted Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) in Kumasi on Friday, said the assemblies as agents of change and development could properly perform their roles only if they were financially sound.
He expressed worry that assemblies in the region had performed poorly in revenue generation and attributed this to poor supervision and the lack of effective monitoring of officers asked to collect revenue.
Mr Manu asked the assemblies to establish schemes to support brilliant but needy children to pursue higher education and to organise training for their staff to facilitate their work.
He appealed to members of the council to operate within rules and regulations.
