President John Agyekum Kufuor has appointed Mr Al-Hassan Yahaya Seini as Director of the Legal Aid Scheme.
The appointment was made on the advice of the Governing Board of the Legal Aid Scheme in consultation with the Public Services Commission, according to a statement signed by Mr S.N. Mends, Head of Administration and Board Secretary.
The appointment took effect from May 1, 2008.
Mr Seini, 51, graduated from the University of Ghana as a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) in 1981 and was certified a Barrister-at-Law from the Ghana School of Law. He is a member of the Ghana Bar Association.
The statement said Mr Seini started work as a Research Assistant at the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) at the University of Ghana in 1977.
He was the Northern Regional Chairman of the Northern Region Chairman of the National Investigations Committee from 1984-1990. He was senior partner in law practice at Yelinzo Chambers from 1991.
Mr Seini was an Assistant Director at the Northern Region Legal Aid Scheme from 1996.
