Tema, June 18, GNA -- An unidentified armed robber in his 20's was in the early hours of Wednesday killed at Kotobaabi, a suburb in the Tema Metropolis during a confrontation between personnel from the Sakumono District Police Patrol team and armed men.
Briefing journalists in Tema after a dawn operation, Deputy Commissioner of Police and Tema Regional Police Commander, John Kudalor said the police retrieved a Dell laptop computer, a locally manufactured gun and jewelleries from a bag the deceased was holding.
DCOP Kudalor said the items had been identified by victims who were robbed by the criminals earlier before the incident adding that one of the victims recounted to the police an attempt by the deceased to rape her in the presence of her husband and members of the robbery syndicate.
On the dawn operation, the Tema Regional Police Commander who led the team made up of 60 police personnel said the operation was to flush out criminals from the metropolis.
The operation which started at 0400 hours saw the arrest of over 20 suspected criminals operating from communities 8, 9, 11, 12, 1(site 2) and Sakumono.
DCOP Kudalor said the suspected criminals would be screened and those found culpable would be prosecuted adding that quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and paraphernalia for sniffing cocaine were also retrieved during the operation.
He assured the public that more operations would be carried out periodically stating however that police patrols would continue in various areas in the metropolis.
DCOP Kudalor cautioned the public to desist from buying stolen items as that would tantamount to stealing stressing that anybody found possessing stolen items would be prosecuted.
