Crown Agents Ghana Limited, a British International Development Company based in Ghana, has celebrated its 175th anniversary with a renewed commitment to support Ghana as it strives to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The Country Manager of the company, Mr Sam Brandful, said it was clear that the challenges facing the country were phenomenal, but not unsurmountable, noting that the company would continue to support the government and people of Ghana with its expertise as the nation strives to meet these challenges.
“We are confident that in keeping with our fundamental objective to be a leading partner in development, growth and prosperity of the people of Ghana and of our public and private sector clients, Crown agents shall continue to provide many more years of making a difference,” Mr Brandful said.
He said the association between Crown Agents and Ghana spanned several decades, with the organisation initially playing the role of provider of goods and services to the then Gold Coast.
In recent times, he said, Crown Agents had been a key partner in the economic development agenda of Ghana.
That, he noted, had been achieved through the provision of various professional services over the past 25 years.
He mentioned some of the areas the organisation provided support to as the Procurement Advisory and Reform Programmes, the Value Added Tax (VAT), Customs Reforms, Public Finance Management and capacity building of over 1,000 civil and public service officials.
Others included the Management of the United Kingdom government aid inflows into Ghana, amounting to approximately £500 million, Japanese government grants of about $200 million and a $250 million procurement, supplies and logistics management for the Ministry of Health and other ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).
The British High Commissioner, Dr Nicholas Westcott, said the company's indispensable expertise was evidence of the fact that their main duty was to supply wealth through consultancy services to their development partners.
“It is that expertise that has made Crown Agents successful for 175 years, out of which 25 years had been dedicated to service in Ghana.”
He commended the management and staff of the company for their hard work and services towards development of Ghana.
