Maritime and Dockworkers’ Union holds Quadrennial Conference

A 20-bed bed male ward for the Donkorkrom Presbyterian Hospital in the Kwahu North District was inaugurated on Tuesday.
The facility, estimated at 70, 000 Ghana cedis, was funded through the District Assembly Common Fund thus bringing the total number of beds at the hospital to 90 beds.
Dr Augustine Ankuvi, District Director of Health Services, said the hospital began as a health centre in 1978 by the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) until 1985 when it was upgraded to the status of a hospital.
He said it was the only one serving the whole district with a population of over 150,000, but faced with a number of constraints such as lack of accommodation for medical staff and other workers.
Dr Ankuvi said the hospital was the life line of the people in the area therefore there was the need to equip it with modern facilities in order to serve them well.
He appealed to the authorities to see to the completion of the maternity block that had come to a standstill since 2000 as well as the construction of a modern theatre for the hospital since the current one is too small.
Mr Kwadwo Afram Asiedu, Eastern Regional Minister, commended the Presbyterian Church for its vision to establish the hospital in the area.
He commended some medical staff at the hospital who had served for more than 20 years, for their selfless, dedication and commitment to duty at the time people were not ready to accept posting to the area.
