Fifty-three facilitators in the Functional Literacy Programme of the Non-Formal Education Division (NFED) in the Kwaebibirem District have been presented with incentive packages for making over 1,000 learners functionally literate.
The 46 men and seven women produced the functional literates within 21 months.
The facilitators were to pick either a packet of 20 roofing sheets or a ghetto blaster system.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony at Kade, Miss Patricia Ansah, Acting District Co-ordinator of NFED, told the facilitators that they were fortunate because in the past some of their predecessors, who volunteered like them and joined the programme, were denied their incentives due to circumstances beyond the control of management of NFED.
She congratulated them for helping at least 70 percent of the learners to learn to read, write, do some calculations and demonstrate functional knowledge through development income generating activities.
Wallace Kobena Adu, Eastern Regional Senior Programme Officer of NFED, congratulated the facilitators for the good work done.
He said by their sacrifices, they had proved themselves good citizens and the nation was grateful to them.
George Aboagye, Presiding Member of the Kwaebibirem District Assembly, also commended them for their voluntary spirit especially in an era when most people expected financial rewards for services rendered.
