Commercial Drivers plying the Dormaa Ahenkro Bechem trunk road in the Brong Ahafo region have expressed their disgust at the number of Police barriers on the road. They alleged that Police personnel at the barriers demand monies from them without any reason and failure to oblige to their demands leads to either the seizure of their driving license or prosecution for alleged traffic offenses.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary of Dormaa Professional Drivers Group of the GPRTU, Kwasi Stephen. The drivers alleged that the Police on the road come on duty without their name and number tags. As a result drivers are not able to report the conduct of such police personnel to the appropriate authorities.

They alleged that they were instantly prosecuted at the Duayaw-Nkanta Circuit Court for traffic offenses and fined not less than nine hundred Ghana cedis for which they suspect foul play between the Police and the court. The driver alleged that they pay instant charges to the Police without being issued with receipts. They are therefore appealing to the appropriate authorities to help remedy the situation.
