Mining KNUST Extractive Summit: Ghana rakes in GH¢7.82billionin mining royalties in nine months - Lands Minister
TUE, 03 NOV 2026

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, says Ghana has received 7.82 billion cedis in royalties between January and September 2026.

According to the Minister, this figure is 4 million cedis more than what the country received in the same period last year.

The figures, he said, have been confirmed by the Minerals Income Investment Fund.

He attributed the development to government's decision to review royalties received on extractive minerals, adding that the decision has paid off despite huge opposition.

He said this when the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST, organised a seminar on the extractive industry.

The event, on the theme "From Rocks to Resources, to Results: Leading Ghana's Extractive Future," was held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

"Royalties scaled from 5 to 12 percent under the new Royalty Regime helping the country to accrue more revenue from extractive companies," he stated.

He revealed that the decision faced strong opposition from some foreign interests.

"I recall embassies in Ghana were calling on me at office claiming the country's decision to scale up minerals royalties will discourage investors," he said.

"It was a tough decision however we stood on our grounds and can tell you that, mining firms are still making profit," he added.

He noted that despite the initial fears and pressure, the new regime has proven to be beneficial to the country without driving away investors.

He emphasized that government remains committed to ensuring Ghana derives maximum and fair benefit from its extractive resources.
