The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) has appealed to parents, old students, corporate organisations and other stakeholders to support efforts to address the institution's growing infrastructure and logistical challenges, particularly its shortage of more than 5,000 student chairs.

The appeal comes as the association steps up efforts to improve the learning environment at the school, beginning with the donation of 500 student chairs, 20 dining tables and 10 dining chairs.

In effect, the PTA has donated 500 chair desks to the school.

The donation, presented on Monday, November 2, is expected to ease some of the pressure on classroom and dining facilities as the institution continues to grapple with inadequate furniture.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, PTA Chairman, Mr Lawford Boateng Acheamfour, said the responsibility of parents towards education should not end with the payment of school fees.

He maintained that parents must also contribute to creating an enabling environment where their children can learn comfortably and achieve their academic ambitions.

Mr Acheamfour explained that the donation was the first phase of a planned intervention to provide 1,000 student chairs, adding that the association expects to deliver the remaining 500 chairs within the next three weeks.

He consequently urged individuals and organisations with an interest in education to partner the PTA in addressing the school's needs.

Traditional leader urges government to prioritise technical education

The Aboabogya Hene, Nana Wiafe Akenten Amoah, who represents Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on the KTI Board of Management, also called for increased government investment in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

He said technical institutions play a critical role in equipping young people with practical skills needed to strengthen production, promote industrialisation and accelerate national development.

He commended the PTA for taking the initiative to support the school, describing collective stakeholder involvement as necessary for the growth of technical education.

KTI Principal identifies major infrastructure gaps

Meanwhile, the Principal of KTI, Mr Andrews Ohene Boateng, has appealed for broader public support to address the institution's infrastructure challenges.

Receiving the donated items, he expressed appreciation to the PTA, noting that the contribution would help improve conditions for students and support the school's operations.

He identified inadequate dormitory facilities, poor internal roads and insufficient industrial facilities as some of the major challenges requiring urgent attention.

He called on government, corporate bodies, old students and other well-meaning individuals to complement the efforts of the PTA in improving the institution's facilities.

The developments have renewed calls for stronger partnerships between school authorities, parents, government and other stakeholders to ensure that technical institutions are adequately resourced to deliver quality education
