Akyode Traditional Council Denies Planned Protest Against Adele Chief’s Coronation

The Akyode Traditional Council in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region has firmly dissociated itself from reports circulating about a planned protest against the coronation of the Paramount Chief of the Adele Traditional Area, scheduled for November 7, 2026.

The Council has urged the public, media practitioners, and community members to disregard the allegations, describing them as false and a deliberate attempt to create unnecessary tension within the municipality.

In a press statement issued on Friday, October 29, 2026, and signed by the Paramount Chief of the Akyode Traditional Council, Nana Obonbo Sewura Lupuwura II, on behalf of the Council and its subjects, the traditional authority reaffirmed its commitment to peace, unity, and mutual respect among the various ethnic and traditional groups living in the municipality and the region at large.

The statement emphasized that there is no misunderstanding or conflict between the Akyode and Adele traditional authorities. According to the Council, it intends to honour the invitation extended to it and participate peacefully in the coronation ceremony.

"We wish to state unequivocally that the Akyode Traditional Council has neither planned, endorsed, nor associated itself with any form of protest against the coronation of the Adele Paramount Chief," the statement declared.

The Council further described the rumours as the handiwork of mischief-makers whose sole intention is to undermine peace and create unwarranted hostility between the two traditional areas.

Community leaders have also called on residents, particularly the youth, to remain calm, vigilant, and not be influenced by inflammatory reports and unverified information circulating within local communities.

"The time has come for all three tribes in our area to demonstrate through their actions that peace is not merely a declaration but a responsibility we owe to the present generation and those yet unborn," part of the statement noted.

The Akyode Traditional Council concluded by congratulating the Paramount Chief-elect of the Adele Traditional Area and reaffirmed its commitment to promoting traditional harmony, peaceful coexistence, and collaborative development among the people of the municipality.

The Council expressed optimism that the coronation ceremony would further strengthen unity and deepen the cordial relationship that has long existed between the Akyode and Adele traditional authorities.
