The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) says a Syrian national has been arrested at Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport in Lebanon with approximately 40 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine concealed in two pieces of luggage after arriving from Accra, Ghana.
The suspect was arrested on Saturday, October 31, following a coordinated operation involving Ghanaian and Lebanese drug law enforcement authorities.
In a statement issued on Sunday, November 1, and signed by the Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations, Francis Opoku Amoah, NACOC said the operation was part of efforts to identify and apprehend individuals involved in the international drug trafficking network responsible for the shipment.
“The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) confirms the arrest of a Syrian national on Saturday, 31 October 2026, at Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut, Lebanon, following his arrival from Accra, Ghana, with approximately 40 kilograms of suspected cocaine concealed in two pieces of luggage,” the statement read in part.
According to NACOC, the arrest followed a controlled delivery exercise conducted through operational cooperation between the two countries.
The operation was also aimed at gathering intelligence to dismantle the wider criminal syndicate behind the shipment.
The Commission further noted that it is working to arrest the suspect’s accomplices in Ghana.
“As part of ongoing operation, NACOC is working to arrest his accomplices in Ghana,” the Commission said.
