The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has opened its online portal for prospective parliamentary candidates seeking to contest the party’s primaries ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The application window runs from November 1 to November 10, with interested party members required to pay a non-refundable fee of GH¢5,000 to formally declare their intention to contest.

The exercise forms part of a new process introduced by the party to assess prospective candidates ahead of the parliamentary primaries, with both incumbent Members of Parliament (MPs) and new aspirants expected to participate.

Announcing the guidelines, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong said the declaration of interest was the first stage of the candidate selection process and would enable the party to assess the eligibility of interested members.

“This time around, the party has decided to come out with a new process in selecting our parliamentary candidates. In kick-starting our parliamentary selection processes, the party has introduced what we refer to as expressing or declaration of interest or intent by prospective parliamentary aspirants,” he said at a press conference.

Kodua Frimpong explained that applicants would be required to complete the prescribed online form through the party's designated portal, ppc.nppghana.org, and pay the stipulated fee.

He added that all prospective candidates would undergo vetting and screening to establish whether they satisfied the requirements of the party's constitution and the electoral laws of Ghana.

The party has also scheduled capacity-building workshops for prospective candidates in December 2026.

The workshops will be organised across the Northern, Middle and Southern zones.

Meanwhile, the NPP has cautioned prospective aspirants, their agents and supporters against engaging in campaign activities, stressing that the existing suspension of such activities remains in force.

The NPP Chief Scribe clarified that declaring an intention to contest does not amount to the formal opening of nominations or grant aspirants permission to campaign in their respective constituencies.

The party's parliamentary candidate selection process is part of its preparations to identify candidates to represent it in the 2028 general elections.
