President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that he uses TikTok and other social media platforms to monitor public concerns and draw the attention of government ministers to issues requiring attention.
He said social media had become an important source of real-time information, enabling him to identify problems in communities and demand action from the relevant authorities.
The President made the disclosure when he interacted with members of the Ghanaian community in Russia on Thursday, October 29, on the sidelines of the Russia-Africa Summit.
Mr. Mahama explained that he regularly comes across social media posts highlighting challenges in various parts of the country and forwards them to the responsible ministers for investigation and action.
"So all your TikToks and things, don't think I don't see them. I see them," he told the gathering.
He cited an incident involving a bridge reportedly affected by illegal mining activities and flooding in the Ashanti Region as an example of how he uses social media reports to address public concerns.
According to him, after seeing the report, he forwarded it to the Ashanti Regional Minister, asking him to investigate the situation.
The minister later informed him that a blocked water channel was responsible for the problem and that an excavator was being deployed to clear it and restore the flow of water.
Mr. Mahama said the incident demonstrated how social media could help government respond to challenges more quickly.
"The new media is an advantage because it gives us information in real time," he stated.
The President also encouraged Ghanaians to speak up when they identify governance failures, regardless of their political affiliations.
