The Founder and Leader of Prophetic Hill Church, Prophet Nigel Gaisie, has clarified that his earlier comments about expecting a government appointment from President John Dramani Mahama were made jokingly.
He said he was only joking when he suggested that he expected to be appointed as a Minister responsible for Religious Affairs or a member of the Council of State.
In a social media post on Friday, October 30, the clergyman urged the public to disregard his earlier remarks, insisting that they should not be taken seriously.
"Ghana dierr....so can't one joke oooo, that was a joke .....COMMON. Kindly ignore this, TAKE IT AS A JOKE," he wrote.
"So I can't even joke or play AGAIN OOO DABIDABI. Blessed weekend," he added.
His clarification follows an interview on Accra-based Neat FM, during which he said he had expected President Mahama to reward his contributions to the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) victory in the 2024 general elections with a political appointment.
During the interview, Prophet Gaisie mentioned the possibility of becoming a Minister responsible for Religious Affairs or a member of the Council of State, arguing that he was educated and capable of combining public service with his religious responsibilities.
He also maintained that religious leaders should participate in governance and cited a fellow clergyman, Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam's role as a Board Chairman in a State Owned Enterprises as an example.
The prophet further indicated that he would consider an appointment from New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia if he becomes President and offers him a position in a future government, provided the appointment is suitable.
However, following public attention to his comments, Prophet Gaisie insisted that he was merely joking and expressed frustration over what he described as the inability to joke freely.
