The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed reports suggesting plans to alter its parliamentary leadership, stating that no discussions have been held regarding the replacement of Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and his team.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, October 29, the party's General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said the NPP remains satisfied with the current leadership of the Minority Caucus and has not considered any changes.
He described reports of a possible leadership reshuffle as inaccurate, stating that the party has neither met nor deliberated on such a matter.
“Let me state it categorically. The party has never had any meeting. The party has never thought about even deliberating to change the leadership in Parliament. We have not,” he said.
Mr Kodua Frimpong also commented on ongoing social media campaigns by individuals seeking consideration as the NPP's running mate for the 2028 general elections.
According to him, the party's constitution does not provide for the selection of a running mate through public campaigns or contests. He explained that the choice is made by the party's flagbearer in consultation with the National Council.
“There is nowhere in our constitution which says that running mate is selected through contest or through campaign,” he stated.
He urged party members and supporters to adhere to the party's established constitutional processes regarding future leadership decisions.
