Residents and concerned citizens have called on authorities to ensure that justice takes its course in the alleged sexual abuse scandal involving the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai, and 19 female students.
The allegations have sparked widespread outrage, with members of the public insisting that the investigation must proceed without political interference or attempts to shield anyone found culpable.
They argue that the case presents an opportunity for authorities to demonstrate their commitment to accountability and protect vulnerable students from abuse.
Emmanuel Appau of Obuasi Akaporiso described the incident as a serious stain on Ghana’s education sector, insisting that the allegations require urgent and decisive action.
“We cannot allow this to be treated like ordinary misconduct,” Appau said. “When those entrusted with the futures of our children turn into predators, the response must be swift, public, and uncompromising.”
Kwame Adu, also a resident of Obuasi, urged the parents of the affected students to pursue accountability, stressing that children attend school to acquire knowledge and build their futures, not to suffer abuse.
In Pankronu, Kumasi, Aba Mansah called for a thorough and independent investigation, describing the allegations as a major embarrassment to the Ministry of Education.
She maintained that if Abdulai is found guilty, he must face the full rigours of the law without fear or favour.
The controversy comes as security agencies continue their investigations into the allegations. Abdulai has also filed a lawsuit against investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, seeking GH¢2 million in damages over alleged defamation.
However, the public calls for accountability remain focused on the 19 female students at the centre of the allegations, with residents urging authorities to ensure that the investigation is conducted fairly and transparently.
They have further cautioned against any attempt to use political influence to obstruct the process, insisting that the rights and welfare of the students must remain paramount as the case unfolds.
