New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has criticised former President John Dramani Mahama’s proposed 24-Hour Economy, describing it as political propaganda that fails to offer a clear solution to Ghana’s unemployment challenges.

Speaking at a thanksgiving event attended by a large crowd of party supporters in Sunyani, Dr. Bawumia questioned the substance and practicality of the policy, which is one of the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) flagship campaign promises.

He argued that despite the publicity surrounding the proposal, Mr Mahama and his policy team had yet to provide a clear explanation of how it would operate or a practical roadmap for its implementation.

“The 24-Hour Economy policy is just a political gimmick to win elections,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

He maintained that the policy’s proponents had not adequately explained its economic relevance or demonstrated how it would contribute to national development.

Dr. Bawumia also questioned the proposed shift-based employment arrangement, under which one job would be shared among three people. He claimed the idea had failed to materialise and had instead “turned into gutter stories,” while unemployment remained a concern.

According to him, the NDC had spent two years promoting the concept without demonstrating how it would generate sustainable employment or improve the livelihoods of young Ghanaians.

The NPP flagbearer urged voters to consider his party’s approach to economic development, saying his vision centred on reversing current economic trends and creating more job opportunities through digital innovation and industrial growth.

He called on Ghanaians to support what he described as the NPP’s proven policies, arguing that the party had already established a strong foundation for national progress.

Dr. Bawumia concluded by urging the electorate to vote for the NPP in the 2028 general elections to enable him to implement his economic transformation agenda.
