As the newly elected War General of the largest opposition party in Ghana, much will be required of you, and you will go down in history as one of the best Chairmen the NPP has ever had if you will take good advice.
The NPP is currently fragmented, and no prudent War General will go to war with a fragmented army.
There has been much talk about UNITY, and I agree with all who have expressed their views on this.
But there is another aspect of the preparation for war which cannot and should not be left to chance:
RECONCILIATION
The Party needs a strong Reconciliation and Unity Committee which will work tirelessly to bring back all the “Prodigal Sons and Daughters.”
I have heard some people stressing a requirement that the Prodigal Sons and Daughters must express a desire to come back to the Party and that no one will be pampered.
I understand them on the “desire to come back” issue. It is scriptural.
The Bible says in Luke 15:17 (NKJV): “17 But when he (the prodigal son) came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you,
19 and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.”’”
But the same Bible says in Luke 15:3–7: “So He (Jesus) spoke this parable to them, saying:
4 ‘What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety‑nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?
5 And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
6 And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, “Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!”
7 I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety‑nine just persons who need no repentance.’”
THE BATTLE IS THE LORD’S
I have heard that many times in past NPP campaigns. The need to hold on to that cannot be overemphasized.
And I would suggest that you talk to your other leaders and agree to appoint Hon. Boakye Agyarko as the Chairman of the Reconciliation and Unity Committee. In so doing, Hon. Boakye Agyarko will see himself as the “Unity Glue” who will work assiduously to champion the Reconciliation Factor of the preparation for Victory 2028.
Remember, Hon. 2nd Coming John Boadu, that Hon. Boakye Agyarko and his team spent millions of Ghana cedis on their recent campaign and on the NPP’s Congress in Kumasi. I don’t think Hon. Boakye Agyarko and his team (which is now fully an NPP team) will want to stay in opposition forever.
Any political consultant worth his salt will tell you that it is the votes of your party members and those of the undecideds (floating voters) that will ensure electoral victory.
Former President J.A. Kufuor mentioned this at the tail end of his administration.
Reconciliation and unity will do the work.
A word to the wise… Kwadwo Tufuor, M.Ed., is the author of: “Campaign and Win, One Touch” and “Praying Effective Prayers.”
He is a political consultant, a member of the U.S. Communication Honor Society, and a member of the International Association of Political Consultants (IAPC).
