The District Chief Executive for Dormaa East, Hon. Osei Owusu King, and the Member of Parliament, Hon. Rachel Owusuaa, on Wednesday, September 7, 2026, commissioned a series of vital development projects as part of an extended district‑wide tour to Dormaa Akwamu and Mmomsubuo.
The leaders inaugurated several completed projects for the Dormaa Akwamu community, including a newly constructed 3‑unit classroom block with ancillary facilities for the SDA School and the fully renovated Dormaa Akwamu Health Center, together with its child‑weighing unit. The delegation also commissioned a 30‑seater modern toilet facility equipped with mechanized boreholes, donated by GoldBod CEO, Hon. Sammy Gyamfi, a native of the town.
To ensure equitable access, the facility was strategically sited across two suburbs—a 16‑seater unit at Dome and a 14‑seater unit at Takoradi‑Nabekyere. Other ongoing projects include a GETFund‑financed school project, additional boreholes, and improved access roads.
Before the commissioning, the team paid a courtesy call on the chiefs and people of Dormaa Akwamu at the Palace during the celebration of the Mmurukuo Festival—a traditional rite performed to cleanse royal stools, appease and feed the gods, unite the community, and seek blessings.
The visit marked the first official introduction of both leaders to the traditional authority since the 2024 general elections. Returning to his hometown, where he previously served as Assembly Member, Hon. Owusu King—together with Hon. Owusuaa—expressed gratitude for the community’s strong electoral support and called for continued backing for the NDC administration. To support local security efforts, Hon. Owusuaa donated 10 boxes of streetlights to the chiefs and people.

Receiving the delegation, the Chief of Dormaa Akwamu, Barima Dr. Oppong Kwarteng Amaniampong, praised the Assembly leadership for the rapid execution of development projects. He noted that older public structures often outlast modern ones despite technological advancements, and urged political leaders to ensure responsible leadership, reduce project waste, and guarantee value for money. He further appealed to government authorities to intensify the fight against illegal mining (galamsey) to keep the youth in school and safeguard natural resources.
Earlier in the day, the delegation began the tour at Mmomsubuo, where local elders warmly welcomed the team and shared the historical origins of the town’s name. During the engagement, community members appealed for speed ramps to curb over‑speeding and prevent accidents, a new borehole near the SDA School, grid extension, and streetlights to enhance safety.
